... What? How is she Mary Sue? Don't use the word without knowing what it means. An example of a Mary Sue would be Flora from that Leon story. If you say you like a character like her, then go ahead.

| No, Mary Sue means a perfect character with no flaws whatsoever. and she did seem to have all the answers to the problems. ._. - Quote :
- Mary Sue - A character, usually female, that is very stereotypical, and often has all the answers to all the problems in a storyline. A Mary Sue is also usually interested in, or paired romantically with, one of the other characters. The male version of a Mary Sue is often called a Gary Stu.

So... Marigoldia has no flaws whatsoever? What about being a sly manipulative bitch and stealing another woman's man? Being a huge jerk in essence whose only redeeming factor is her beauty? Not trying to insult you or anything, but I'm personally heavily insulted if someone calls any of my characters Mary Sue, because it means the fact that I created the character and made her perfect as a self-insert, and that's the most disgusting thing to do as a writer. A Mary Sue is a person who is perfect in every way, often just to be a dream fulfillment fantasy for the writer. A Mary Sue is the person whom all the good characters worship and all the bad characters either grudgingly accept her or get portrayed as a bitch. A Mary Sue is a HORRIBLE WRITING STEREOTYPE. If you consider Marigoldia to be such a person, please do enlighten me on how I should change her - though I'm pretty sure she's an evil and bitchy character enough as she already is. Thanks.

| I gotta agree, Mari is not a Mary-Sue character. She's really imperfect; hypnotizing Stephan just for the money. You call that perfect? :O | |

| Yeah, but it all depends on the perspective of the reader. To one, it might be a perfect girl (sure with major jealousy problems) so it could be loosely defined as a Mary Sue, which on the outside to a common passerby only knows her as the noble's wife. To another, it might be a - Quote :

But personally to me, I think of the former. No offense to you, didn't know that was highly insulting to you. Sorry.

| Mari's not a mary-sue, her only good point is her beauty and cunningness. Anything else about her are major flaws.
And beauty is not perfection, no matter what the excuse is. But then again, that's why many many girls are attracted to beautiful evil men, handsome jerks and all... Sigh.

But personally to me, I think of the former. No offense to you, didn't know that was highly insulting to you. Sorry. Whether or not a character is a Mary Sue ultimately depends on how the writer portrays it. She can have flaws like no tomorrow but still be a Mary Sue if those "flaws" are actually portrayed as good or even likeable. Like Bella Swan from Twilight - her only flaw was her 'clumsiness', but her clumsiness has no real impact on the story other than making Edward find her even cuter. You can even say someone's flaw is to be 'plain', and it's still Mary Sue if she's described as plain yet thousands of boys hanker over her (yet again, Bella). Thus, it ultimately depends on how the writer portrays it. The portrayal is what eventually leads to the reader's perspective. Marigoldia seduced Stephanius just for the power and the wealth. There's no other reason.

Remember Belle-Destinee's insistence that "Muggle" was a legit word by quoting from Wikipedia? XD

| But I digress. Btw, telling a writer their character is a mary sue is one of the biggest insult in the literature. | |

| It's only a couple of postings back in the last page.. you'll get caught up soon enough. Btw, @azure and @kirroha, I didn't know that calling an author's character a Mary-Sue was the most insulting thing you can tell the author. Well, I learned something new. Again, it's in my opinion, and I won't back away from it. Though I'll call it slightly a Mary-Sue, is that good enough? No? Didn't think so.. | |

If accusing a writer of inserting herself into the story as a perfect princessy character with little or no explanation isn't an insult to you, then I don't know what is. As I repeat again, a Mary Sue is a PERFECT SELF-INSERT. So Marigoldia's my slightly self-insert? Ha very ha. Totally, I want to become somebody like her. It's my lifelong dream. | I think she's still roaming the forums somewhere in where ever she lives? Alright, find. You made her NOT a mary-sue, but in my own definition it is. Is that okay? Guess not again.

| No worries. I am sorry if I might have sounded harsh, as I did not intend to mock you. It's the intention that counts, and I know you're not trying to insult me on purpose. After all, when you said that you like Mary Sue characters it was clear that you did not find them derogatory at all. But just to tell you, the word Mary Sue for a character is generally insulting, so you might want to reconsider your definition a little. | |
